OUTER BORDERS
Sew a Fabric A 2½˝ × WOF strip to the top of the bordered block.
Press the seams away from the block.
Trim the excess fabric, using a mat, ruler, and rotary cutter.
Repeat Steps 1–3 to add the border to the bottom of the block, using the remainder of the strip.
Sew the remainder of the strip to the left side of the block. (A single WOF strip should be sufficient to border all 3 sides.)
Press and trim, as you did in Steps 2 and 3.
Sew the 13½˝ side of the Fabric A rectangle to the right side of the block unit.
Press the seam away from the block unit.
Repeat Steps 1–8 for each place mat.
